DESCRIPTION:Art Spark Dance’s Elements class is a once a month dance class that is open to everyone\, with or without disabilities\, to explore and develop their own movement style. Led by professional dance educators\, the class offers a welcoming and supportive environment where you can discover the joy of dance.\n\nIn this class\, we will be studying dance improvisation\, a structured form of movement that is less technically rigid. Improvisation allows dancers to explore and create in the moment. Movement material will be developed through creative explorations\, including body mapping using levels\, shapes\, and dynamic frameworks and our everyday life topics.\n\nThe goal is to empower you to find your own language of movement\, embracing your individuality and creativity. No prior knowledge or experience is needed\, everyone is welcome.\n\nJoin us to move\, connect\, and enjoy dance in a space where everyone is welcomed and valued.\n\nThe class takes place every 3rd Saturday of the month from 2 to 4 PM at the Rosedale School\, located at 7505 Silvercrest Dr\, Austin\, TX 78757. There is no registration required\, and the fee is on a sliding scale from $5 to $20; however\, no one will be turned away for lack of funds.\n\nFor questions email dance@artsparktx.org or call 512-454-9912.\n\n\nIn this class\, we will be studying dance improvisation\, a structured form of movement that is less technically rigid. Improvisation allows dancers to explore and create in the moment. Movement material will be developed through creative explorations\, including body mapping using levels\, shapes\, and dynamic frameworks and our everyday life topics.\n\n\nElements has a special guest teacher from Tblisi Georgia. Mariam (Maka) Chkhaidze is a curator and cultural manager based in Tbilisi\, Georgia. With a background in theatre and social psychology\, she combines these two disciplines into a deep commitment to use the performing arts as a tool for fostering connections between marginalized and underrepresented social groups. In 2022\, Maka founded InForm – Platform for Inclusive Minds\, a non-profit organization dedicated to bringing disability narratives into the performing arts scene in Georgia. Under her leadership\, InForm has established an inclusive contemporary dance theatre group that includes dancers and actors of mixed abilities. The troupe produces original and collaborative performances both locally and internationally\, and conducts educational programs to nurture an inclusive arts community.\nMaka is a CEC ArtsLink Fellow and is spending the whole month of October with us here at Art Spark Texas. This class is supported by CEC ArtsLink. CEC ArtsLink supports transnational cultural mobility and collaboration\, empowering artists and arts leaders to engage communities in dialogue and creative projects for a more equitable\, compassionate and sustainable world.

Her work has traveled into schools\, communities\, correctional facilities\, and recreation centers\, always centering dignity\, creativity\, and the belief that movement belongs to every body.\nFrom performing the interactive “ABCMeMove” for over 1\,000 kids\, to teaching annually at a women’s correctional facility through Beyond Bars\, to leading WINGS II for older adults and a preschool dance program\, Michele’s practice is rooted in connection\, courage\, and joy.\nMichele believes:\n\n“To move is to be human… I believe in the power of dance to celebrate life\, and to unite\, inspire\, and express the uniqueness of each member of the human family.”\n\nAt this month’s Elements\, Michele will guide us through an improvisation-centered class where:\n\n\nThe individual is at the heart of the experience\n\n\nMovement grows from your innermost being rather than imitation\n\n\nHow it feels matters more than how it looks\n\n\nAll ages\, bodies\, and experiences are welcomed with care\n\n\nCome move\, breathe\, and be together with a community.
